I have had a lot of love coming in for the Card totebag I posted yesterday in the Control Freaks Blog Hop! Thank you all for your kind notes and comments! Let me also say - this was an idea my friend found on Pinterest and shared with me, so I am not the originator of this tote, but I did redesign the project to suit my needs, so this is my version! As promised - here are the instructions! I highly recommend you read through the entire sheet before starting the project, so you have an idea of what comes next. Little totebag for cards – this version was designed by Connie Tumm!
Tools:
Bone folder
Scoring board and stylus
¼ inch sticky tape
1/8 inch punch
Small flower punch
Brads with long prongs
Base piece: 1 piece 7 x 4
* score at 1 inch on all four sides
* cut slit on each corner and fold into box
* use tape to put box together
* run tape around outside of box, for when you attach the DSP to it
DSP Piece: 2 pieces of DSP cut to 6 x 7 ½
*overlap by ¼ inch and tape together to make 1 long piece – 6 x 15
* attach DSP piece to box - you want the seams in the DSP to fall on
the center of the 2 inch sides of the box.
*before you come around the last corner, put a strip of ¼ inch tape on
the edge of the DSP that will overlap.
*carefully tape the two ends of the DSP together starting from the
bottomand working your way up – being careful to not overlap too
much as you get to the top.
Handle placement: *Mark handle placement with the guide. Just put a little dot on the DSP
so you have an idea of where the handles will fall
* My handles are 3 3/4 inches apart
*Punch holes in DSP – for handles
Make Handles: 2 pieces 11 x 1 –
*score at ½ inch from 2-9 inches
* DO NOT SCORE ENDS WHERE BRADS GO
*round corners on handles and punch holes for brads
* Fold on score line being Careful not to crease at the ends of
the handles.
*Tape folded part of handle together
* use bone folder (lightly) to give a curve to the handle.
*from scraps - Punch 1/8 inch circle first, then flower,
so that hole is in the center of flower
OUTER/Upper trim: 2 pieces 1 x 7 ½
*Use bone folder (lightly) to give curve to trim.
* Use tape to attach outer trim – lining up the seams to fall
underneath the handles.
*You may have a tiny bit of excess on these pieces, just trim
if that is the case
Attach Handles: * Repunch the holes for the handles. You can see where they are
on the inside of the bag.
*Before attaching handles, put a dimensional above the hole,
to help hold handles in place.
*Using brads, attach flower, then attach handle to bag,
folding back prongs on inside of bag.
*Turn brad prongs so they are sideways and will get hidden
by inner trim
INNER/Upper trim: 2 pieces 1 x 7 ½
* Use bone folder (lightly) to give curve to trim.
*Use tape to attach inner trim (your tape will go on the outer
curved side this time)
* Line up the seams to fall on the sides of the bag where the
DSP seams are.
* You may have a tiny bit of excess on these pieces, just trim
if that is the case
Bottom trim: 2 pieces ¾ inch x 7 ¾
*Lay a piece along the bottom of tote and gently score with your
fingers, to mark the corners.
* I lined up the seams on the 2 inch sides of the bag.
* Use tape to attach.
Tag: White piece – 2 x 3 Coordinating CS Piece 2 1/8 x 3 1/8
* use Stamps, ink and punches to make a cute tag for your bag.
* Attach with a little silver cord.
